I was just investigating how to make a hoop house for my kale bed. This is more for protection from the flood of water that falls from the building that butts up to our property than to keep it warm, particularly since the kale doesn’t really need warm weather (making it great to grow in SF).
This flood of water has plagued us since we moved in but I decided to place the crate for the kale in that corner anyway because I thought the rainy season was over. I mean, it is JUNE after all. Sadly, I was wrong. We’ve gotten more than a little rain in the last week or so. The run-off from this building is not only drowning my little kales on that half of the bed but its coming down with thick moss that must be in the buildings gutters and breaking free with the heavy rains. I do not need moss in my garden beds!
Currently it looks like tonight and tomorrow morning will be the last of the rainy weather for a while but just in case I wanted to look up hoophouses for future needs.
I found this little trinket. Now I just need some PVC, u-bolts and plastic sheeting…..
